Fisker Automotive has changed CEO Tom LaSorda with former
Volt Executive Tony Posawatz. He replaces Tom LaSorda. He appointed CEO only in

jump right back into the car business.
LaSorda said in a statement, "Tony is the perfect CEO
for Fisker. He has been at the forefront of the industry's technological
revolution and one of the few people in the world to bring an EV to mass
production."
The company's executive chairman and co-founder Henrik
Fisker said “Posawatz, will ensure that Fisker is well positioned to maximize
the potential of not only the Karma sedan, but also bring the Fisker Atlantic smoothly

According to a recent Harris Poll survey “automakers are
starting to win over customer confidence in hybrid cars, especially with
younger drivers.”
Harris discovered in this poll one-third of car owners (32%)
review they have an interest in purchasing a hybrid vehicle and 23% say that
their absorption in hybrids has added from a year ago. That does not mean
though that we can anticipate compounds to be wide on the streets all around
the nation all of the rapid, as traditional
vehicles still get the nod by more than half (59%) of customers as a
vehicle choice.
55 % indicated a new because they simply desired to spend
less on the cost of petrol purchases. Less sized number, 26 %, indicated
attention because of ecological factors.
Playing a huge aspect into who is purchasing green vehicles
is age, according to Harris. While nearly one-third (32%) of those under 35
years are more interested than they were a year ago, the same can be said for
only 15% of those over the age of 67. Actually, it was mentioned, 11% of those
67 and older review they are less fascinated in comparison to one season ago.
In conditions of the choice being hybrid or other green car
alternatives like power, hybrid car remains the far and away choice. More than
a one fourth said something like the toyota Prius would be their first choice
in the alternative fuel vehicles section, while just one in ten say they would
consider diesel fuel (11%) or all power (9%) vehicles for their next purchase.
Almost two-thirds (63%) report that they are not likely to consider diesel or
all electric options at all for their next car purchase.
According to Harris, more than one-third (35%) of car owners
say they find the vehicle quality of American brands to be lower than imports.
Just under a one fourth of car owners (24%) said American-brand automobile
quality to be better than imports, by evaluation.

Audi introduces digital rearview mirror with 7.7 inch LED
screen. This is an interesting technology, but it is necessary. The Audi R8
e-tron has no rear-view mirror that can see through a solid piece of carbon
fiber.
The screen inside the car is a 7.7-inch AMOLED (Active
Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) with Samsung technology.
The screen will automatically reduce the glare from the
headlights of cars behind. It can be switched off if the driver just isn't with
it.
Now the screen will just display the camera image, but Audi
says it's working on adding more helpful information to the display in the
future.
Unionised workers at
Hyundai Motor Company have resumed a walkout after failing to hammer out a wage
deal with management.
It's 45,000-strong union
puts down tools for two hours on Wednesday, demanding higher wages.
Hyundai Motors labor union
said will halt work for several hours on six days between Aug. 8 and Aug. 17
and will refuse overtime work on those days. Workers at factories in Ulsan,
Asan and Jeonju have also joined the strike.
The strike comes amid
growing frictions between workers and management in Hyundai Motors.
Kia Motors Corp.,
Hyundai's smaller affiliate, plans to join the strike later this week.
Separately, workers at GM
Korea, the unit of General Motors Co., also plan to strike Wednesday and
Thursday.
Hyundai Motor denounced
the strike in a statement. They said "it is regrettable that a labor union
has decided to go on strike and interrupt negotiations at this critical point.
The union walkout is counterproductive and will harm the workers and Hyundai
customers, as well as the company."
The company said "We
must work together to ride out the economic crisis instead of wasting time on
wrangling,"
There are many new technologies that promise to keep drivers safe. Its called crash avoidance technology.
There are three new automotive technologies seem to reduce crashes. That is collision avoidance systems, automatic braking and adaptive headlights. Are they worth extra cost? A study by the Highway Loss Data Institute says(HLDI) yes.
"So far, forward collision technology is reducing claims, particularly for damage to other vehicles, and adaptive headlights are having an even bigger impact than we had anticipated." Said Matt Moore, VP of HLDI.
The study said “forward collision avoidance systems,” which alert drivers when they are quickly gaining on objects in their path and may crash. Some of those systems has an automatic braking feature. It helps the driver if he failed to respond in proper time.
Car models available with this crash avoidance technology include the Mercedes-Benz CL Class sedan, the Volvo XC60 and the Acura MDX SUVs.
The Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) found a 14 per cent reduction in the amount of property damage liability (PDL) claims in Acura and Mercedes-Benz vehicles equipped with forward collision avoidance systems.
They said Volvo’s autonomous braking system also reduced crashes by 10 per cent. But this autotech wasn’t statistically significant.
Injury claims reduced slightly for most vehicles with forward collision avoidance systems. But it's not statistically significant in most cases.
“Lane departure warning may end up saving lives down the road, but so far these particular versions aren’t preventing insurance claims,” Matt Moore said.
He said “It may be that drivers are getting too many false alarms, which could make them tune out the warnings or turn them off completely. Of course, that doesn’t explain why the systems seem to increase claim rates, but we need to gather more data to see if that’s truly happening.”
This report also mentioned a list of other high-tech crash avoidance features coming to the market but didn’t provide statistics on their effectiveness.

The Nissan Leaf made a new record for being the fastest vehicle traveling in reverse during this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Fastest Car in Reverse is The Nissan Leaf.
This task has been performed by Terry Grant, a professional stunt driver, who had to steer the Leaf backwards during the famous Goodwood Hillclimb.
Grant said "I had a great car at my disposal - with direct drive from the electric motor to its wheels, the Nissan LEAF can, in theory, go as fast backwards as it can forwards,". He also set a world record last year, driving a Nissan Juke.
On the opening day of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Nissan Leaf has set the record on Friday and on Saturday and Sunday. He managed to cut 26 seconds off Friday’s time. He drove on the Goodwood Hillclimb in reverse for over a mile (1.6 km) in 1m 37.02s and the average speed was 55 mph (88.5 km/h).
Honda's new EV comes with an unusual option: free collision insurance.
Honda Fit EV will be available for lease starting on July 20 in California & Oregon for $389 a month.
Although the amount of insurance savings for Honda's new Fit EV will vary based on a consumer's driving record and address, this offer can reduce some of that expense. According to some insurance industry estimates, a single man living in a southern California suburb will save as much as $600 a year.
Starting with Nissan Motor Co., large automakers began selling electric vehicles in late 2010. But they didn't get good response from customer because of limited range and higher price compared with gasoline-powered vehicles. A charging station is also required in their garage, an expense that can run $1,500 to $2,500, depending on the home.
The first of this new generation of electric vehicles to market is Nissan Leaf. It can travel 73 miles on a single charge and takes about seven hours to charge. The Ford Focus can travel 76 miles on a single charge and takes about four hours to charge. Honda's Fit EV can travel 82 miles on a single charge and takes about three hours to charge.
Spain new car sales plunged to a 19-year low level in the first half of this year, said figures released jointly by auto manufacturing and sales associations. They said "This puts us at 1993 levels,". ANFAC said, The number of cars sold in the first half of this year stood was 406,070, 8.2 percent less than in the previous year. Juan Antonio Sanchez Torres, head of the National Association of Sellers of Motor Vehicles, Repairs and Parts said "Visitor numbers to Spanish showrooms fell 30 per cent in the first months of the year,". "This was due to economic factors such as the domestic demand crisis, worsening recession and lack of credit." Spain’s unemployment rate, increased to 24.6 percent in May from 24.3 percent a month earlier. "The lack of consumer confidence shows people are not taking advantage of some of the best offers on record being made by the car manufacturers and concessionaires," said Aranzazu Mur, economics chief at the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC). "The auto market in our country has not hit bottom ... 2012 will see just 720,000 new registrations, levels not seen for a quarter of a century," ANFAC said.
